Hi, I'm Mr. Dave!
My approach to music education is practical. For years, I've learned as a composer how music works to create expression and move people. I'm excited about passing this knowledge along to my students. Alongside this knowledge is the art of pedagogy, that is, teaching others how to be proficient at playing an instrument - more than simply being able to play, a well-instructed student can play with a great sense of musicality and expression.
I teach piano, guitar and drums. I'm a member of the Music Teachers National Association and the Arizona Music Teachers Association. Many of my students participate in the Arizona Study Program.
When the Covid-19 pandemic forced me to teach exclusively online, I embraced the new format and found that lessons could be taught effectively over Zoom, and I plan to offer online as well as in-person lessons in the future.
When this pandemic also forced me to quit my classroom teaching job, I began work on my new, free online classroom called Mr. Dave's Music Classroom. As of this writing, lessons are still being planned, written and shot on video.
